As a direct result of the seminal shelter reform lawsuit Logan v. OC Animal Care,  Sharon Logan and her team of attorneys achieved better living conditions for the animals at OC Animal Care, a complete overhaul of OC Animal Cares Policies and Procedures, and a favorable outcome for the animals.

As a direct result of the seminal shelter reform lawsuit, Logan v. OC Animal Care Sharon Logan and her teams of attorneys obtained the resignation of the previous Shelter Director.

Sharon Logan and her team of attorneys also advocated for a new shelter to replace the 70 year old dilapidated shelter that was currently in place.

Sharon Logan and Paw Protectors Rescue also organized and held the largest shelter protest at the new shelter regarding policies and procedures under the new shelter director Mike Kaviani’s  leadership.

Sharon Logan and her team of attorneys sued OC Animal Care, Orange County’s largest animal shelter over their high euthanasia rates and numerous violations of the Hayden Act.

Paw Protectors Rescue is grateful for the generous publics support in reaching out to Paw Protectors Rescue and thanking us for shedding a light and exposing the truth about what really happens at OC Animal Care.

Sharon Logan along with her team of attorneys publicly exposed and tackled the apathy of the Shelter Management and Shelter Employees and the intransigence culture within the Shelter Management and Shelter Staff at OC Animal Care.

The mandated court ordered monthly euthanasia list that OC Animal Care had to provide to Sharon Logan and her team of attorneys as a direct result of Logan vs OC Animal Care and released to the public showed the many animals that were being needlessly euthanized at OC Animal Care, the killing of healthy adoptable animals that were purposely mislabeled as a justification to kill unabated at OC Animal Care and with over 200 empty open kennels appalled the general public and ushered in a movement.

Part of Paw Protectors Rescue seeking, true,  real, viable, shelter reform and effectuating real positive changes at OC Animal Care after our game changing, seminal shelter reform  lawsuit Logan v. OC Animal Care was settled included, Paw Protectors rescue leading the largest Orange County Shelter protest at  the old OC Animal Care facility, and attending other protests.

Paw Protectors Rescue also hired a statistician and data analyst to analyze all the data from the mandated court ordered Euthanasia List that had to be provided to Sharon Logan and her team of attorneys.

Paw Protectors Rescue and the game changing seminal shelter reform  lawsuit Logan vs. OC Animal Care has been featured and the subject of numerous articles written, radio and media interviews.

“It is the policy of this state that no adoptable animal should be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable home unless it has manifested a sign of behavorial, temperamental defect or a sign of disease, injury or congenital hereditary condition. The state policy is clear that unless one or the other of those exists there is no basis to euthanize the animals. We know that the OCAC like many municipal shelters for the reasons we just discussed, claiming lack of resources, but also because they simply become callous and let’s face it, if it’s a job that you do day in and day out, it doesn’t take you long to figure out that the less animals you have to be accounted for and take care of the less work you have.”

“The law is the law, for the next two years as of the 10th of every month, I and Sharon will be receiving as the court designated people, a list and identification of all animals euthanized in that prior month and we can choose at random whatever 5 animals we want further documentation on, so we will be looking over their shoulder and I assure you quite carefully, and that should have at least some kind of effect on the people working there. This is a battle that we will have to continue to fight.”

I think that in time, over a 2 year period, should have some effect on putting in place these procedures they have agreed to, learning to live with them and hopefully coming to the understand that doing it the right way produces more forever homes for these animals, and makes you feel better about yourself than doing it they way they have been doing it.”

Paw Protectors Rescue founded in 2011 is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Southern California area. Paw Protectors Rescue is dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason, dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect, stray, abandoned, street dogs.

Paw Protectors Rescue place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

Finally, Paw Protectors Rescues strives to work with area shelters and other rescues and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
